Paddy O’Brien’s extensive career as a musician and collector of Irish tunes spans nearly forty years. From County Offaly in the midlands of Ireland, Paddy traveled the countryside as a young man to spend time with older musicians, absorbing music and the accompanying oral tradition. Paddy has performed, recorded, and toured with many acclaimed ceili bands and groups including the trio Bowhand (with James Kelly and Daithi Sproule). He received a grant in 1994 to record and compile the 500 tunes that make up The Paddy O’Brien Tune Collection: A Personal Treasury of Irish Jigs & Reels. Currently, he is a member of the band Chulrua with piper Tim Briton and guitarist Pat Egan. |
