Gearoid O Fearghaile | songs in english and irish

JeroldOFearghaile.jpg (18753 bytes)Gearoid was born in County Meath where he learned to sing at a very early age from his maternal grandfather, Phillip Sheridan, who knew a lot of old Irish songs. Gearoid also picked up ballads from his father, Harry Farrelly, who was quite a good singer himself, and continued to learn songs from neighbors and in school. In the early 1960s and 70s, Gearoid joined a folk group, and he has been performing ever since. Gearoid studied Irish Gaelic all through his years at school and spent a summer at an immersion program in the Connemara Gaeltacht before he attended All Hallows College and University College, Dublin. Gearoid began teaching Irish Gaelic in Baltimore about 12 years ago and formed the Baltimore Branch of Conradh na Gaeilge (the Irish Language Association). For many years, Gearoid has been lead singer in the popular Baltimore band Rigadoo.
